We're Restoring Betchcott Hill – A Film Campaign to Inspire and Inform
In partnership with Shropshire Wildlife Trust, we were commissioned to produce a film campaign to support the Betchcott Hill Land Appeal and the long-term restoration of this ecologically significant site in the Shropshire Hills.
Betchcott Hill is a 50-hectare landscape of enormous potential, nestled between the Long Mynd and the Stiperstones. It is home to skylarks, brown hares, and breeding curlew—yet it has suffered from ecological decline and is in urgent need of restoration. Thanks to a wave of public generosity, over £160,000 was raised to secure the site and begin vital habitat work.
The Project
Our role was to create a visual narrative that would both celebrate this conservation milestone and communicate the vision for the land’s recovery. The centrepiece was a two-minute feature film showcasing the beauty, vulnerability, and potential of Betchcott Hill. Working closely with Shropshire Wildlife Trust, we designed the film to connect emotionally with audiences, blending sweeping landscape cinematography with natural sound and an evocative voiceover.
The story focused on the site’s unique blend of habitats—grassland, wetland, and woodland—and the species that depend on them. Through a mix of drone footage, ground-level detail, and poetic storytelling, we highlighted the Trust’s plans: from restoring species-rich grassland through hay strewing and conservation grazing, to enhancing wet flushes for lapwing and curlew, and sensitively managing existing woodland.
Alongside the main film, we produced a suite of short-form social videos tailored for digital platforms. These reels offered quick, informative snapshots of specific restoration goals, such as creating scrapes for wading birds or explaining the importance of blocking drainage ditches to rewet the land.
The Result
From scripting and filming to final edit, we approached each element of production with a deep respect for the Trust’s conservation mission. The final films successfully conveyed both the scientific rationale and emotional importance of the project, serving as powerful tools in engaging supporters, stakeholders, and wider audiences.
This campaign was more than just a record of restoration—it was a visual statement of intent. Through compelling storytelling and impactful imagery, we helped bring the Betchcott Hill vision to life, inspiring continued support for the site’s transformation into a thriving sanctuary for wildlife.
